Studying Romance Philology at the Free University of Berlin offers the opportunity to engage with more languages and literatures than anywhere else in Germany. Besides French, the institute also offers Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, and courses in Galician, Catalan, and Basque. Literature is studied in relation to other media such as film or comics, and languages are taught by native speakers. Students have access to the many cultural and research centers at the Free University and in Berlin. The professors at the institute are globally networked in research, and international scholars regularly visit the institute.
