📋 Program Hakkında

The degree programme entails analysis of the literary, linguistic and cultural phenomena which have arisen as a result of contact across territorial, ethnic, political and religious boundaries within the francophone linguistic and cultural area. The degree course focuses on variants of French language and culture, as well as literary traditions, taking an integral perspective to consider the entirety of the world's francophone territories; from France to francophone parts of Africa, to Québec. During the course of study, an emphasis is placed on literary, cultural and linguistic expressions of francophone culture and transcultural studies which have arisen as a result of transcultural contact phenomena within the francophone area. Students must have successfully completed a Bachelor's degree in a philological or cultural subject. During the programme, students will strengthen their French language proficiency and gain skills in an additional Romance language. The programme can also be studied as an international variant with a Double Degree in cooperation with Paul Valéry University of Montpellier. This Double Degree program features multidisciplinary knowledge transmission of linguistic and cultural contacts in the fields of Language Sciences, Literature, Cultural Studies, and Transcultural Studies from the perspective of two different cultures and scientific traditions. The program structure depends on the university of origin: students starting at Heidelberg spend their 1st and 2nd semesters at Heidelberg University and their 3rd and 4th semesters at Paul Valéry University Montpellier; students starting at Montpellier spend their 1st and 2nd semesters at Montpellier (Master 1) and their 3rd and 4th semesters at Heidelberg (Master 2).
