English studies is dedicated to the investigation of the English language, literature and culture in their various present-day forms and in their historical development. Traditionally, Britain and North America are of central significance both in teaching and research, but there are also a number of classes on other varieties of the language, other literatures in English and other English-speaking cultures. The most important areas in the English studies degree programmes (linguistics, literary studies and cultural studies) are taught with varying prioritisations in addition to practical language education. As a minor subject, a Bachelor's degree in English encompasses fundamental language training and the scientific investigation of either English languages (linguistics), literatures (literary studies) or cultures (cultural studies). Students must choose their area of specialisation (linguistics, literary studies or cultural studies) upon enrolment. This specific program focuses on Literary Studies (25%).

* Recommended: Students should attempt to spend one or two semesters in an English-speaking country as an essential addition to the degree programme. * Students must have completed the Einführungsmodul Literaturwissenschaft before taking advanced courses in literary studies.

* DSH: level 2 (German Language Examination for University Entrance) * Non-standard requirements: German language skills must be documented at least at the level of DSH 2 at the latest for registration if admitted to the Bachelor's degree programme.
