The Master's degree programme in Classics is dedicated to Greco-Roman antiquity and its cultural periphery from an interdisciplinary perspective. Core subjects are Ancient History, Classical Archaeology as well as Greek and Latin Studies. The programme is supplemented by Byzantine Archaeology, Papyrology, and Basic Sciences. Students choose a focal area in which they want to acquire detailed expertise and complete their Master's thesis. They will also take joint, interdisciplinary modules. Content from related areas such as ancient philosophy, digital humanities, or cultural heritage can also be included. The term of "Classics" is aligned with the Anglo-American specialist tradition and is consciously understood to be in dialogue with other classical cultures worldwide. The programme offers a research-oriented education with focus on the joint analysis and interpretation of the material and textual cultures of Greco-Roman antiquity. It prepares students both for a scientific career (including a doctorate) and for a wide range of professional fields.
