The study of dentistry is uniformly organised in the Federal Republic of Germany through the approbation regulation (Approbationsordnung). The aim is to acquire the knowledge and skills that enable a dental license. It is designed to provide basic knowledge, skills and abilities in the respective dental subjects which are required to provide health care to the public. The dentistry program is scientifically based and practice- and patient-oriented. Prerequisites for a successful study of dentistry are good scientific knowledge in the fields of biology, chemistry and physics as well as a basic understanding of medicine and the natural sciences.
