The Assyriology (Ancient Near East Studies) degree programme focusses on the Sumerian, Babylonian, Assyrian and Hittite cultures in their entire impressive diversity. During the Bachelor's degree programme, students will be introduced to the basics of the major ancient Near East languages (Akkadian, Sumerian, and the Hittite language) and the highly-complex cuneiform script. They will also gain an overview of the history and cultural history of the ancient Near East. This is a major degree programme (75%), in which Assyriology (50%) will be studied in combination with Near Eastern Archaeology (25%). Another subject of the student's choice must be selected as an accompanying minor subject (25%).
