The bachelor's program Culture and Technology provides a comprehensive understanding of the complex interrelationships between culture and technology. In the core subject of art studies, students deal with art history from the Middle Ages through early modern period to modernity, learning to understand works of art in their design, technological and historical context. The program develops broad knowledge of scientific methods to examine artifacts from different perspectives. The university-specific profile focuses on cultural, material and technological prerequisites of artistic production and questions of mediation and institutionalization of art. This includes procedural knowledge, shaping processes, material iconography, artist training, cultural transfers, museum history and history of science. The general part of the program provides professional, methodological and social skills to understand intellectual, social and material dimensions of the modern world and their interrelationship, building bridges between humanities, cultural studies, and natural and technical sciences.
