The degree program in Food Chemistry at KIT focuses on food safety and food quality. Students learn chemical basics important for the production, analysis, and safety of food. The program covers the composition of food, interactions of ingredients, and their changes through processing or storage. Students gain in-depth knowledge of inorganic, organic, and analytical chemistry with emphasis on practical laboratory work. The program has its roots in consumer protection to ensure food quality and safety. Food chemistry plays a central role in testing food for contaminants and developing innovative solutions for food safety. The focus is on the molecular composition of food and its analysis rather than the health aspects of nutrition. The program provides a solid scientific foundation and includes a high proportion of laboratory practicals for valuable practical experience.

* German language proficiency at minimum C1 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) * Accepted certificates: passed "Prüfungsteil Deutsch" of the Feststellungsprüfung, passed DSH with overall result DSH-2, passed TestDaF level 4 in all four parts, or comparable recognized certificate
