The master's programme in German Studies (M.A.) offers the opportunity to set individual emphasis in the field of German language and literature studies. Students can pursue a specific course profile in Low German or in the area of Children's and Youth Literature. The program prepares graduates for further academic careers or provides knowledge and skills necessary for careers in cultural activities. The course includes linguistics (grammar theory, pragmatics, Low German, German as a second language), literature studies (literature history, literature studies in cultural contexts and/or literature and media), interdisciplinary modules in languages and cultural studies, professionalisation area, and a master's thesis module. Features include small learning groups, diverse opportunities for independent learning, freedom in planning studies, internationally recognised research, opportunity to earn a certificate in Low German, and Erasmus semester abroad options.

* Bachelor's degree or equivalent qualification in German Studies or in a closely related field worth at least 60 ECTS credits * Proof of adequate German language proficiency

* DSH: Deutsche Sprachprüfung für den Hochschulzugang (Level 3) * TestDaF: Test – Deutsch als Fremdsprache (with level 5 in all four areas)
