📋 Program Hakkında

The master's programme Communication and Society in Ibero-America focuses on the social dimensions of communication in the Ibero-American macro-region and its contact areas. Students recognize Ibero-America as a macro-region, with Latin America and the Iberian Peninsula as core areas, and the regions which are historically or socioeconomically connected to them as contact areas (especially the United States, Europe, and Asia). They acquire in-depth knowledge and gain advanced methodological competencies in the humanities and social sciences, such as communication studies, political science, sociology, geography, linguistics, literature, cultural studies, and history. The course work is organised into 5 sections: Fundamental Competencies, Methodology, Advanced Competencies, Key Transversal Skills and Mobility Window, and Graduation Modules. The program critically engages with current social, political, economic, and environmental debates across Ibero-America, emphasizing their expression in social and public communication. Students examine pressing questions on social movements, sustainability, migration, political transformation, and the media's influence on public opinion. Special features include interdisciplinary perspectives, area-specific knowledge, multimodal learning environments, and an international study setting with a stay abroad as an integrated part of the program. The research is organized into three major focus areas: Multiple Transformations and Social Cohesion; Globalization and Mobility of Cultural and Natural Heritage; and Social and Cultural Communication: Migration and Contact.
