Art history explores national and international artworks, their creation, appearance, function, and the impressions they create. The field encompasses classical artistic media, architecture, graphics, handicrafts, painting, plastic arts and their theory, as well as some cross-media art forms and mass media. The program examines epochs and genres from the Middle Ages to contemporary art, focusing on artworks' content and their political, social, and cultural contexts. It emphasizes interpretation considering aesthetic, historical, sociological, and economic aspects, including artists' biographies and artistic techniques. The curriculum covers art history's own history, methodologies, and institutions. Besides working with texts and visual media, the program strongly focuses on studying original artworks on-site through tutorials and field trips. This subject must be combined with a second subject.
