📋 Program Hakkında

Computer science is an integral part of modern life. It is the study of computation, information, and automation. Computer science includes the systematic and automatized processing of information. The program covers theoretical disciplines (algorithms, theory of computation, mathematical models) and applied ones (hardware and software applications, communication networks, chip testing). During the six-semester Bachelor's degree programme, students study basic computer science topics (programming, algorithms, data structures, theoretical computer science, system architecture, software engineering), mathematical foundations, compulsory elective lectures, core lectures, specialization lectures, software internship, seminars, and a freely selectable minor subject. The curriculum is structured into several module areas including: Introductory Lectures, Mathematical Foundations (covering algebra, analysis, stochastics), Computer Science Fundamentals (programming, algorithms, data structures, system architecture, concurrent programming, big data), Practical Labs, Seminars, Core Lectures (covering various specializations like AI, computer graphics, security, etc.), Advanced Lectures, and a final Bachelor's seminar and thesis project. The program includes: a ring lecture 'Perspectives of Computer Science', lectures with exercises on fundamental computer science topics (Programming 1 and 2, System Architecture, Information Systems, Theoretical Computer Science, Concurrent Programming, Fundamentals of Algorithms and Data Structures), lectures with exercises on mathematical foundations 'Mathematics for Computer Scientists 1-3', elective lectures from computer science in the categories of core and advanced lectures, a software practicum where students create a complex software product in a team, a proseminar and a seminar where research results are presented and discussed, courses in a selectable minor subject such as Mathematics, Computational Linguistics, Systems Engineering, etc., and a Bachelor's thesis with Bachelor's seminar. The Computer Science department at the University of Saarland regularly achieves top rankings in university rankings like CHE Ranking and CS-Rankings. With a 50+ year history, the department has distinguished itself through excellence in research and teaching. It has 36 university professors and offers 17 study programs covering all aspects of computer science. The department is part of the Saarland Informatics Campus (SIC).
