The Bachelor's program in Midwifery Science (Hebammenwissenschaft) is a dual study program that leads to both an academic Bachelor's degree and state professional certification as a midwife. The program qualifies students to independently accompany and care for women and their families throughout the entire phase of becoming parents - from pregnancy to the end of breastfeeding or the end of the child's first year of life - and to provide assistance during childbirth. The program teaches competencies in independently promoting and managing physiological processes during pregnancy, childbirth, postpartum and breastfeeding; recognizing risks and irregularities in women and children; planning, organizing, implementing, controlling and evaluating complex care processes; promoting the independence of the women being cared for; person and situation-oriented communication; responsible design of intra- and interprofessional actions; and reflection and justification of one's own actions. The program offers excellent study conditions due to an outstanding supervision ratio of students to lecturers. Students learn partly together with nursing and medical students to convey appreciation for each other and for the importance of interprofessional work.
