📋 Program Hakkında

This academic programme is based on a holistic understanding of the Iberian and Latin American cultural areas, which include Spain, Portugal, Hispanic America and Brazil. The degree programme focusses on linguistic and cultural interweavings across Ibero-America as well as literary traditions. It is concerned with contact phenomena that arise within linguistic and cultural regions across territorial, ethnic, political or religious boundaries. The focus lies on areas of Hispanic and Lusitanian Literary and Cultural Studies, Linguistics, and Transcultural Studies that share a connection with transcultural contact phenomena in Latin America, the Iberian Peninsula, and between Europe and Latin America. The program features interdisciplinary and international research networks via the Heidelberg Center for Ibero-American Studies (HCIAS) and has Erasmus cooperation agreements with 14 Spanish universities. Starting from Winter Semester 2024/25, the program will offer an optional Double Degree with the Universidad de Chile in Santiago de Chile. The Double Degree program structure has students spend their first year (first two semesters) at Heidelberg University with an interdisciplinary approach, followed by the second year (third and fourth semesters) at Universidad de Chile with specialization in one of three disciplines: Linguistics, Literature, or Latin American Studies. The program is research-oriented and allows for a semester abroad or an internship in the third semester.

* Successful completion of a Bachelor's degree programme in a philological or cultural subject is required * Knowledge of Spanish language, literature and culture is beneficial * No prior knowledge of Portuguese is required, but students without at least A2 level in Portuguese must participate in an intensive preparatory Portuguese language course in September before the semester begins * For the Double Degree program with Universidad de Chile, students complete their first year at Heidelberg University and their second year at Universidad de Chile
